Chinese Women's Team Won Two Gold Medals at the 2016 Netherlands Tug Of War World Championships

The 2016 Tug Of War World Championships was held in Volendam City of Netherlands on February 17-22, 2016. Chinese Metallurgical Sports Association Ansteel team joined the competition. Ansteel tug-of-war team was composed by employees from Ansteel Group. It has won a lot of awards in and out of China over the years, especially in the previous year’s competition. In 2015 competition, Ansteel women’s team won the women’s 540kg tug-of-war champion and made a historic breakthrough. In recent two years, under the guidance of China Tug-of-war Association and leaders in Ansteel Group, the outstanding team trains in a scientific way, improves continuously and regards defending the world champion as a goal.


Delegates from 23 countries and regions joined this World Championships, which included most teams and delegates joining the game from the previous competitions. China teams joined in the 500kg female race, 540kg female race and mixed 600kg race. After a total of 28 fierce competitions, the Chinese team won the champion of 540kg-competition on February 20 and gained eligibility to participate in 2017 Poland World Games. On February 21, the team won the champion of 500kg female race. Also Chinese team won the second place in the mixed 600kg race. With two gold medals and one silver medals, Chinese team was listed as the first in gold list and second in medal list, getting the best results from the previous World Championships. Meanwhile, Qin Jiao, from Chinese team, was selected as the Best Woman Athlete.


At about 23:00 on February 23, all membership of the Chinese tug-of-war team arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport. Related leaders from China Iron & Steel Association and Chinese Metallurgical Sports Association picked them up and witnessed the triumph of the world champions.
