At 19:30 on September 3, the opening ceremony of 2016 National Tug-of-war Championship was held in Xiushan Lake Center Square in Maanshan city, Anhui province. Party Secretary Wei Yao, Acting Mayor Zuo Jun, Director of the China General Administration of Sports Wang Yong, Secretary of China Tug-of-war Association He Yi, Deputy Director of the Provincial Sports Bureau Wang Dajun, Secretary of the Provincial Sports Bureau Wang Yong, Vice Mayor Ma Shaohua and some other leaders joined the opening ceremony. Vice Mayor Ma Shaohua presided over the opening ceremony, Acting Mayor Zuo Jun delivered the welcoming speech, Deputy Director of the Provincial Sports Bureau Wang Dajun delivered the opening speech and Director of the China General Administration of Sports Ji Yunxi announced the opening of the game.
The competition was held by China General Administration of Sports, China Tug-of-war Association, Anhui Provincial Sports Bureau and Maanshan city government and organized by Anhui provincial Social sport Guidance Centre and Maanshan Administration of Sports. This was the first time that Maanshan city hosted the National Tug-of-war Championship. 14 teams with more than 200 athletes, coaches and referees participated in the competition.
